January 2005

Happy New Year.

Well, nothing has moved forward this week as I've been laid up in bed with the flu, as I believe most people have been over the holiday period.

The only thing I have managed to do, is find a 'glass' man in a small fishing village called Tollesbury, a few miles from me. He apparently used to work full time on GT40's and still does the odd one or two jobs for 40 builders, he now does car body kits, boat bits and pieces, oh and the occasional Ferrari pops in for repair(!) So I think that my glass fibre needs are in good hands.   The only problem is that he is busy for the next two weeks so the build will be slipping back, but there are other jobs I can be getting on with. Fitting the rear clip is one job, I need to order the gas struts for the rear clip. Prime and paint the gearbox. Fitting speakers in the front of the cockpit. I have ordered underlay and carpet for the cockpit, when that arrives and is laid I can then pre-fit the seats.

I then need to review the outstanding parts required to finish the engine bay.

While waiting for the cockpit to be finished I have been busy priming and painting my gearbox, not that it needed it but I just wanted to put a good smooth finish on it. First was a coat of etching primer and then a couple of coats of Hammerite smooth gold followed by three coats of clear petrol resistant lacquer.

The carpet and underlay have also arrived and I have made templates in readiness for cutting out, first I need to drill the floor pan for the seat fixing bolts.
