December.

Retest time.

Tuesday December 12th

At least it wasn't raining this time. The car was booked in for 10.30 we were there well before that to unload and book in for what I thought would be a quick retest of checking the failure list,

Knob on dashboard, I took this out and blanked off the hole – Accepted.

Drill and roll pin the brake bias bar – Accepted.

Onto the brake test, after about 20mins of testing the efficiency of the front brakes, rear brakes and handbrake. Passed.

Only the front/rear bias to check (only!) It turns out that the bias bar was giving too much braking force to the rear and not enough to the front, I asked if I could adjust the bar and after 'some' discussion I was allowed to adjust it providing I wasn't obvious about it! Try doing that with this car with your legs poking up out of the passenger side door and your head buried on the footwell. Anyway after some swearing and banging the roll pins were out and the bar adjusted. Back to the test lane and the computer…….not enough!!!AAAGGGHHH!!!! by this time it was nearing lunch hour, so I was allowed to make another adjustment in the lunch hour, in my previous adjustment I had wound the bar as far as I could for front bias, I could maybe get 1 – 2 turns but not much more! I was thinking now that I had screwed up, so after thinking about it I then started to wind out the push rod from the pedal to the front master cylinder and wind in the push rod for the rear master cylinder. My thinking was that now the front brakes would be activated well before the rears and the more pressure he applied the greater the pressure to the front!!! So back to the test lane, but by this time the tester had another two cars to test, Japanese imports, he said he'd try to fit me in but it could be a 3 hour wait, which it was. So I was sat there wondering if I had done enough………around 3.30 I was asked to drive the car to the test lane, jumped in, turned the key, dead battery!!!!! With everyone looking on, someone came up with some booster cables and I managed to get it started and over to the test lane……….fingers crossed……….after about 20mins (most of which was the tester trying to get in and out of the cockpit) he finished up and went in to the office to input the figures into the computer.

And the result……………………………………………………………………………….

This isn't the end though, I still have jobs to complete. Plus I will be buying a registration plate and putting the car on the road next March, which means I still have the DVLA to contend with when I register the car in February.

I will post some pictures over the next couple of weeks as I really haven't had that much time with the run up to SVA.
